On last nights rise
the moon sat high
to the east
with chubby cheeked
roundness of face
beaming off the water
in baby breath designs
that denied me darkness
to lose myself in

I thought instead of youth
and how it had blazed hot on days
that bled to nights filled
with longing loins
and groans of presumed
wrongs....

I thought of children
     fresh innocence on display
that touched your face
in awe
             that giggled in ease
at love

I went back then
to times when I was young
and such a moon would be lost
on some other intellectual denial
that down deep inside
I too was a human

just being...

On last nights rise
I heard a creak of cradle
as it rocked on uneven floors
and tired eyes cried
for sleep
           for you to find peace
and for the sun
                     to shine

It's too far for me to reach out
and kiss the face of God

but last night
              I would have tried

Oh God...
this is beautiful!
The ending made my breath
catch in my throat...
Yes...
"The cats in the cradle and the silver spoon"
came to mind...
Wonderful Ron!

Yes, last night there was the moon in its totality, lighting the way for my damndog and I as we walked by the river. But I, not looking it full in the face, got my reverie from the dazzle in the water.

Thank to all of you... for the nice words..and taking the time to read...

My son... is now 31 years old... and he and I are not as close as once we were, but I still think fondly of those times and him growing up, from time to time...the moon brings it all back and I can see the shadows of those days play out on the night...

thanks again, truly, for indulging me and for ALL the very nice comments..
