How many people remember,
their first fishing trip,
their first concert,
their first love,
their first kiss?

How many people remember,
the first hand,
coming down upon them
like a burning lightning bolt
to strike deep into the heart
branded never to be forgotten?

The first hand of too many
to infest the mind with memories
whose imprint is implanted within
every sting recorded,
as its damages relationships
beyond bruised healing.

Words stinging from those superior.
Remember the taunting of youth
being new to the area,
being a high achiever,
dreaming to be popular,
faulted by others jealous
denial of understanding.

Abuse has many faces
which disgusts humanity
hiding within so many
claiming to be alright,
those that bear the weight
of the first hand
raising their first hand
upon an innocent child,
a delicate loved one,
a defenseless one,
reenacting the menacing cycle.

What can I do?
Except create the words
that makes the first hand
wrap itself around love,
instead of instant hate,
most of all, think
before striking for all time.

Thought: I was banned from writing at work at lunchtime, except in my car. This was because I wrote a poem about abuse, having heard it from someone who had to much pain inside to bear. I have never suffered from abuse, except by those that see me as different and unwilling to conform to their ideas. The poem, I wrote away from work that got me analyzed, failed for some in the workplace seen it as disgusting without reading the whole content. I never distributed it at work for that reason, knowing how grown people can react. They seen me as a monster which I hope my words will soon eradicate, for poetry should be about beauty and understanding, even if the subject is dark and may disturb someone. So fault me for believing words can make a difference and that no one should fear them. For if they come from the heart and create debate that creates music rather than hate then my grave will smile. Free the writer in me and never ban my ability to create freely in an American sky. I pray we always hear the songs flying within others, creating magic inside us, then casting a spell upon them of friendship and understanding..

This is true.Maybe if there were more openminded people in this world it would be something easier for the victims to come to terms with and overcome.I agree all should read this.
