I'm sorry for all,
Of the things that I've done.
For all of the races,
That I chose not to run.

I'm sorry I hurt you,
Fot there was no need.
When cruelly I cut you,
And left you to bleed.

I know that it's hard,
To believe that I've changed.
That I once was so cold,
And now none of it remains.

I ask much of you now,
I have the right to ask naught.
But to become who I am,
I have viciously fought.

I've sparred with my pride,
And wrestled my doubts,
I've parried my fears,
And won many bouts.

perfection of character,
Is not what I claim.
But I know in my heart,
That I am not the same.

My eyes are now open,
As well as my heart.
And I most humbly ask,
For one more fresh start.

You haunt all my dreams,
And And you occupy my thoughts.
It's only for you,
This battle I've fought.

I know I'm the victor,
But I have not the prize.
For the only trophy I seek,
Is sequestered in your eyes.

It's that flame, that sparkle,
It's what words cannot say.
I think that I see it...
Or do my eyes betray?

"The greatest gift a father can give to his daughter is to love her mother."

What a truly touching poem this is, and with so many feelings that are familiar.  I think the ending is beautiful, really, and leaves with a question...one that a lot of us have asked...excellent write here...~S~

I really appreciate everyones support.  The poems I have posted here are the first I've written since creative writing in College.  I wish I were more familiar with other forms of poetry, unfortunately this is the only form I really "get".  And I'm not sure I "get" it right.  So thank you all again for being so sweet and complimentary.

I think we need some more comments on this fine piece of writing.

Joe,  very courageous words from a humbled
soul.  Words many could benefit from reading
at least once, if not more.

Thanx..
