~* It Thrives On Pity *~

Sails of loneliness contain the one
Whose vessel bulges from battles not won.
Festering, festering, so angry, and mean
Invisible, and careful not to be seen.

You’re blind and see only what you want to see,
I wear a mask, smile, be what you want me to be.
With hands gnarled behind my back in hate,
I feel inside me the monster that is your fate.

For in my abyss lurks one hungry beast,
Whose cloistered soul will be fed on its release.
For years you’ve enjoyed keeping me down,
Belittled me, abused me, and played around.

This beast now birthing, born from your lies,
Is full of vengeance and its doubled in size.
You fed it with your lies, raised it in hatred,
Soon your eyes will see the monster created.

Cold blood runs through its heart of stone,
Empty and hollow, filled with pain it has known.
Be careful my man, I keep this creature unseen,
Trust me, it’s your worst nightmare, not a dream.

Go ahead, laugh at me, but can’t you see,
The creature you created trying to get free?
I suggest you be careful of all you say and do,
Soon, really soon, she’s coming after you.

Is that pity I see in your wicked eyes?
This monster inside me just grew in size,
You pity me – well, I feel sorry for you!
One day soon I’ll be finally rid of you!

So much I want to say about this...

Just know that I adore you for this--with all of my gratitude for your astute answer, and all of my love for your fighting spirit, Sharon.

You ARE a wonderful friend, and (chuckling here) AND a formidable foe.

and *twinkle-eyed typing here* someone HAD best beware!

Good venting Sharon... I'm thinking I missed,  or mixed the message a long time ago, but it still gets under my skin and makes me wish I had never heard or breathed a word.

Oh boo hoo me....literally!

AH, now I understand... I had to go read Serenity's first... loved this!!!  I wish I had read it 10 years ago.  There were an awful lot of people that look on me with pity.... Date raped, single mom... on welfare, just dumped by another boyfriend... etc.,  I didn't need anyone's pity, just someone who wouldn't judge me by where they think I'd been and done.

I liked that last line it was like I won't need those in my life that always think that I am somehow inferior to them.

I was ready to throw my fist in the air by the end of this one.

Watching day and night
For I will be pursuing
Plotting out my revenge
For all your wrong doing

To fly on this special trip
Wings now extra strong
Seek there my vengenge
Pull out your lying tongue

Well now the last time I had someone make me feel like that - I headed to divorce court, and I have never been married since!  I learned there was a huge difference between being lonely and being alone (I chose the latter.)  After that I got so dang strong, that ask anyone I can not only stick up for myself now, but for every single "doormat" that needs a hand up.  Once you get your power back there is no way but up! (but darn that anger management is sure hard at the time isn't it?)

Thank you all for identifying with this one, writing out those feelings sure feels good!

Great poem! I love the picture, it captures the double sided nature of pent up anger and final freedom.

Susan - I think I beat you!  I had 25 years under my belt to THREE men before I wised up, but boy have I come a long way baby now.  No offense to men out there, as I know there are good ones, I just never seemed to get them   Well glad you got out some frustrations with this poem.

ahh Sharon . . .
so very true indeed

Cold blood runs through its heart of stone,
Empty and hollow, filled with pain it has known.
Be careful my man, I keep this creature unseen,
Trust me, it’s your worst nightmare, not a dream.

Beautiful writing
