Coming across to this time,
Bringing tears that mark loss.
Stabbed through the heart
By an old, old song,
A father once sung to a boy.

*("I sell the morning paper sir,
My name is Jimmy Brown"
Everybody knows I am,
The newsboy of the town")

Back fifty, forward eight
A father still young, at thirty
Bonded in marriage,
A decade past soldiering
Singing his son, of old ways.
Lyrics from depression days
Are the bearer's of the blade.
.
*("You will hear me yelling "morning star"
As I run along the street
I have no hat upon my head,
No shoes upon my feet")

Why, this song, why here
At this past noon,
Must I choke these tears?
A river in long drought
Swells now , bank-full
Flows over my gunnels
Trying to sink me;
And I barely stay afloat.
.
*("I'm awful cold and hungry sir
My clothes are torn and thin
I wander 'bout from place to place
My daily bread to win")
.
Near capsized, listing,
Dark glasses, hide the sadness
As I cross the macadam
To cry in the car.
But my love knows...
Her eyes speak silently
"That was your Dads favorite song,
Wasn't it?"
Her hands touch me gently.
.
*("My father died a drunkard sir
I've heard my mother say
I'm helping mother sir
As I journey on my way")
.
New lyrics advance ,
Emotions linger
The band switches key
Increasing the time,
I relax;
Dwell again
In this now,
In this moment
An acceptant of loss...
Smile the smile once again
That fond memories bring us.

*("My mother always tells me sir
There's nothing in the world to lose
I'll get a place in heaven sir
To sell the gospel news")

* Jimmy Brown The Newsboy

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Ford, this is absolutely touching, sweet friend, this reminded me so much when I saw David Gray in concert in February and how when he performed an extended version of "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" in tribute to his late father he went from the original version to some borrowed lines of Van Morrison to a heartwrenching sentimental near-end until saying "But it's good to be alive" in the end with energy! (wipes tears) This is excellent, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ford, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Still just as wonderful as the first time I read it.
You can express yourself and feelings that is rare for one to do.

Froggy.

My dear poet friends:
Thank you so much for the warm comments.
When I heard the band play this song an emotional rush came over me
I did not try to control it,
It was way to powerful, like being controled by God, It was usless to resist.
I needed to express those feelings, thank you for reading them
......ice......
