Still Loving Phil

I fell in love with a woman
that still loved another.
He joined the Army and shipped out
to Germany to get away because he
didn't want to be her lover.

Or did he?

I suppose I'll never know.
Because I wanted her, I
didn't want her to go.
She thought he would get
settled in and then he would
send back to California for her.
But she wasn't sure.
Her mom told her to let go.
She told her daughter to write
one of those dear John's saying
"Phil I'm through with
you, I hope you know.
Phil you better let go."

I should have been
the one to let go!!!

I knew she missed him more
than she knew how to reveal.
I knew it from the first time
she told me that she still
loved Phil.

funny how we always seem to want what we cannot have?

This was a awesome poem, and very good lesson to read.  We always think the grass is greener on the other side, huh, until we get there.

Why is it men's thirst cannot be quenched?
Always restless, looking for something better, after we've known the best we'll ever find?  we seem to tell ourselves, blindly, that what we had was not right?  And we believe it?

James
Nice realistic write.

This line can be so true...
"I knew she missed him more
than she knew how to reveal"
Excellent line my friend.

Thank you SharaRose, gemjop, QJQ, Lee J, littlewing and ethome for the nice responses...
These are left over feelings from many years ago...she became my wife, but I don't think she ever got over Phil and apparantly I still believe that I was her second choice...James

(big hugggssssss) Oh James, my heart goes out to you, sweet friend, I know how hard it can be to deal with this kind of relationship and you deserve so much to be first on someone's list as you have the heart of a true romantic! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet James, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

James, what a difficult place to be in...I'm sorry. You wrote about it so honestly. A sad write but a well written one.

This isn't an easy place to be.It haunts you and taunts you messing with your heart and mind.May you soon find the comfort that you so deserve.

Thank you Romantic heart, Noah, Saunni and velvet for the nice responses...yes, its not wise to become involved in a relationship where you are second choice...the other person resents you because they settled for second best..James
