~ §§ ~In A Fond September Farewell~ §§ ~

Tattered, worn, slippers
tremble on tiptoes through
the last breathes of September.

Ever so softly she hums
Her woebegone chant
under bated breath
rising and falling like the
silence between impulsive
clatters of thunder or lightening.

Already half naked,
her torn and tattered skirt of summer
snags on every grasping breeze,
sending a mixture of brilliant
crimson, sierra, and gold sequins
flying from her faded party dress.

In an “oh my!” sigh,
variegated cracklings
under her grass-licked slippers
emblaze virgin trails
marking fall's beckoning.

Slowing reaching down
She sadly winks rain filled eyes,
throwing a final kiss to the wind,
In a fond September farewell.

Oh my, Sharon...
I swear your poetry is just getting better
and better lately.  This is one of the most
beautiful pieces I've ever read from your pen.
Absolutely gorgeous, my friend.

(big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is soooooooo beautiful and made me cry as this reminded me of when I was a little boy and autumn broke my heart truly because the flowers were dying and the butterflies flittering away and it made me feel dead! (wipes tears) Autumn doesn't sadden me as much as it used to but I still prefer the spring ever so much more, God Bless You, this is gorgeous, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

My goodness gracious (as she shyly peeks around the corner), and sees, these wonderful words, and then she screams, "Wow I can not believe Mikey liked it!"  Martie you honor me as you are my idol you know that and Nancy Lee, as always you are so very, very kind.  Thank you.

Sharon, this was simply wonderful!  Janet Marie beat me to the quote.... I especially like your use of leaves as sequines on a party dress.  I love summer..... She left the party too soon for me.  Falls a gorgeous gal but her party-pooper half sister, Winter is always lurking around the corner.

Glad I popped in for a read tonight.
This one is going into my library.

Sharon, this is just the most beautiful
poem......from the title all the way to the last
word. These last two verses just top it all off!!

In an “oh my!” sigh,
variegated cracklings
under her grass-licked slippers
emblaze virgin trails
marking fall's beckoning.

Slowing reaching down
She sadly winks rain filled eyes,
throwing a final kiss to the wind,
In a fond September farewell.

I love it and I'm going to keep it, too.
I hope that you don't mind?

Hi Sharon,

What a beautiful way to look at the breadth of Autumn!

How could one not be fond of this fabulous farewell?

So Very Poignant!

Oh my, oh my, OH MY! Sharon, this leaves me completely speechless. Hon, there aren't enough adjectives in our language to describe how much I loved this.

I don't know what's in your tea, but girl, your poetry has gone the realm of imagination.

Huggles of admiration ... Marti

I think I am beginning to figure it out that I don't spend enough time actually sitting and writing my poems that's for sure. Usually I am in such a hurry I think something up, do it, find a picture and poof - up it goes.  Lately I do them in Word, take my time and maybe do three at once, and work on those three until I crack a smile, then poof them up!  Thank you all for showing me the error of my ways for with time spent in your imagination you can turn a leaf into a sequin and I now remember what my Mom used to say, Quantity doesn't always mean Quality, and she was right.

Well dear friends, September is gone, as are all the memories of that month we stored like squirrels filling their cheeks, in our minds.  What will October bring - the beauty of falling leaves, October moons, and now, the cuddles of chilly lovers begin.  I absolutely adore this time of year, for it awakens the love that stays dorment in our hearts to see the changes of yet another year to come.

I am so glad you all enjoyed this, as much as I did doing it as it is a new one for my site that will be expanding soon.  I appreciate your time and feedback always.
