Konrad’s Return

At the spot where the overgrown
windmill, entwined by vine, still stood if only
by green force,
Konrad made the left turn, and headed on south.

He had picked up a ride after catching
a freighter into Galveston
then when that driver had to turn right,
away from Konnie’s destination,
he thanked him,
got out, and continued on his way.

A few other weary drivers heading his way
saw in him a harmless enough streak,
and loaded him up, and on.  He was on boot, however,
when he came to the windmill,
almost home.

Or at least, the place where a family
had once grown.

The clouds were starting to come in.  Winter
seemed as if it would be early.  He hunched
his shoulders, drawing his collar up.   His
mind wandered to Jake, and wondered
how vacant his eyes would be, now.

He imagined Dillon wouldn’t sing much,
anymore, and cooking would now
become a chore.

He wondered, too, if Iambe were fighting hard
to leave her new home,
for he couldn’t imagine
her liking the dark, that much.
And whomever she may be conversing with
was probably getting the sharp side
of her tongue, and wondered if they'd put her
in her overalls before lowering her
into the ground.

He swore he couldn’t help but grin at that.

Dillon heard the dogs barking, saw Konrad coming
from down the road.  She stood there in her flowing
blue cotton dress, her boots still being main gear,
long legs showing tan when the wind
teased her skirt, there,
on the porch

then turned and called Jake’s name,
where he joined her.

Konrad stood for a moment, watching them,
both seeming to stand only for the other
to lean on.

The clouds began to gather up, and overhead,
darkening gray, as arms of limbs once
scattered to the winds, turned in toward
each other, and braced
for the storm.

Capt may be ready to lay this muse to rest...(and thats whats right for him) but I am so glad you still continue to find your inspire in what he started...

I love the way you described Dillion in this...and open the door for healing....
just dont leave him here to long...

dont want to keep Dana waiting.

If you wonder why the earth moves ... this is me missing you."

The overalls!! Thank you Karilea!

I asked Ron once why she always wore them...I can't repeat his answer here

well done K... you weave the story well. Seems life for Konnie is a series of arrivals and departures....

JM... yeas, it is nice K feels a need to continue the story, but once healing has begun, then it is on with all that entwines the character in their own life.

Susan... now my answer wasn't that colorful... truth was and is I find overalls on a woman intriguing... something earthy about them, so maybe it is return to my own roots...

Well done Sunshine.. well done indeed!

Konrad's not the only one...
Ya know Kari, death is a lot like love, it changes sometimes...depending on perception.
Thank you for carrying on with this tale.  Chaucer and I will be around for every word...
