As Music Played On...

Peering out the open window
Night air warm with kiss of breeze
Stars shine bright, a moon lit 'show'
Counting twinkles in night sky seas
She has these thoughts, these memories.

It's 12 o'clock, "The Midnight Hour"
This song then comes into her mind
Thinking now of "flower power"
Another place, another time
As the clock bells finish their 11th chime.

And as the 12th chime rings off-key
The memories, harsh, returned with song
Dusty's "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me"
Comes across her mind so strong
"Believe me, believe me," she felt so wronged.

For song had broke, into the news
About this war we fought and lost
A bomb was dropped upon a few
Of those who became wars deadly "cost"
And 'he' was part of troop that lost.

Her heart then froze, her mind had numbed
For all had seemed so good to be
Into a trance she now succumbed
Was dying, need hear a word from 'he'
As music played on, "Let It Be Me."

The songs continued, she cried into the night
"When A Man Loves A Woman," a new song
Was so overwhelmed, so filled with fright
Couldn't sleep, remembering words "She can do no wrong"
He was in her thoughts, all the evening long.

Then tears fell while listening to "Rhythm of the Rain"
As thoughts weighed heavy of moments shared
Remembering first dance, first touch, now pain
Questions arise, a future, she dare?
Trying to keep thoughts from going nowhere.

"The End of the World" began to play
And the tears continued, she felt so 'down'
When before the rise of sun, next day
News had come and turned her around
Her 'love' not lost, her 'love' now found.

And joyous now her heart was beating
Saw the moon in all it's glow
Slowly disappearing meeting
Sun's arrival with rainbow
"Goodmorning Starshine's" words now flow.

Maureen:

many thought and feelings here
but the one I concentrated on most was
this:

. . . Good morning starshine
The earth says hello
You twinkle above us
We twinkle below . . .

Reminded me of "Hair"
and that era I so adore and despise
Bless your heart Maureen
Challenge beautifully met
as always

Boy, she made you reach back into the archives...it's a good challenge, but you saw it coming down the road, and prepared yourself very well...

Enjoyed this, I did...

Thank you everyone, it was a challenge I couldn't do with one song only since they all have meaning to me...this one especially from so long ago.

It was a challenge a few years back to write using music as your influence...and it was my memory of an 18 year old in love.

Well Kaoru, those were the songs of the time...and I lived a fairytale life for many years, though some through difficult times.

Poetry has allowed me the pleasure of remembering the good times among the sad when I am challenged to go into my past.

I remember writing this while sitting in my screen room that summer day well into evening, bringing out those songs to relisten to and reacquaint my memories.

When I hear those songs today on the "oldies" stations, they are usually one after the other and always, always bring me to tears, not wishing to return to those days, but wishing for the life I once had and shared.

Thank you for the opportunity to "feel" again today.

M

Maureen...

I was there with you...heard the songs, felt the frantic fear, the hope, the prayers...I'm so glad the last song was a happy one.  Very well done!
