state of confusion

He spent his nights writing – poems, essays,
stories. Volumes publishers would never want,
of exotic historical places and wars imagined
with characters of noble men and strong women.
He slept in the day, he couldn't bear light,
the constant buzz of it.

Women longed to be near him.
He learned early on to use this,
counted on them to provide for him
while he wrote; would lay with them
because he felt it was owed.
He could be cold. But then he’d turn
on soft heels, deliver the sweetest poem.
He could be all.

He dreamt of winning a Pulitzer,
spilling out of a limo dressed in finery,
instead he lived in poverty,
his poems peppered with lifelong insecurity.

When his illness became too much,
he’d retreat into a bed much too short
for his long body, curled up
to keep his feet from hanging over;
a bottle of tequila on the floor.

On two occasions, he dedicated poems to me:
once, a lullaby, when I suffered from insomnia -
sung aloud to me in his sweet, southern lilt;
the other when I complained about summer’s drought -
on glittering morning lawns and freshly painted
white porches.

If he were to write one to me now,
it would have to float down from the sky.

Corinne,
this is strong and vivid, but I sense pain behind the write. *HuGS

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Corinne, I can't identify this special person deep in your gorgeous poem, but he sounds so special and I'm sure he continues to send golden letters down from the heavens, enveloped with warm angel hugs! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is so wonderfully expressed with heart and soul, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Yes, very sad, but a strong write. This line stuck out in my mind...

"his poems peppered with lifelong insecurity"

"Only those who do not cling to their life can save it." -- Tao Te Ching

To be remembered with such tenderness...he sleeps easy. Know that.

Core? This is way way way too good to be where I found it. This needs a real good bump!

God bless suthern for popping this back up - because I missed it, and I would not want to have that hanging over me - that I missed something THIS good.

IWIHWT...I truly do.
