beyond the doors of perception

As I've gotten older, the things that matter have changed dramatically.  I love being a grandfather, and spending time with my family.  I've been a rambler, and gettin' older, but life just keeps getting gooder (sic).

Yeah, though my clothes are old and some are torn
and my sox are ragged and my shoes are worn
My kids call it a five head on my face
it’s right out front in the forehead place
My hair is goin’ and  getting grayer
and, Oh God!, my face has seen a better day or...
too many late nights, and days on the lam
my joints are stiff and tend to jam
Yet all in all, I just don’t feel so bad
since surviving to live was all I had
I’ve got “Trusty Rusty,” my old car
and, beloved JoAnn, I wonder where you are
I have a host of friends, they’re astoundin’
sharing hope and laughter, sittin’ ‘round in
gatherings of coffee, love and feeling
Thank the Universe I’m in the healing
I see the children being, in their lives
Unaware of being aware, their love thrives
I’ve always wanted to get there, like a kid
But I’ve felt so limited by the things I hid
Not my failings, but my beliefs and thoughts
Seeing more clearly, I reject the “oughts.”
I can pick up my grandkids with one arm
and be enraptured by their charm
I can sit on the porch in the setting sun
And I can momentarily be with the One
