Paws
I pause
considering
her forelegs splay
a melt of dog
like butter warming on a plate
equi-distant place of snout
eyes in droop
and hound dog red
begs to me to show concern
her body stretches out linear
her tail reposed upon the floor
with just a hint of flicker hope
as I stood there watching her.

In the middle of my floor
where the tile is clean and cool
Impatient as I pounced my path
of laundry and my things undone
I started to demand she "MOVE"
but something ceased my stomp of feet--

I shook my head and laughed at me--
then I walked around
again
just the way I always did...
and will do
again, again
smiling as
her velvet eyes
becoming this--
a curtain fringed--
slowly eased
this
close of play.

Her tail thumped lightly in applause.

Perfect!

We don't own animals; we just get to borrow them.

( I doubt any one really will think of you as a dog.)

hey ice--

I thought about this awhile and I've decided that perhaps she does this thing (always when I'm frantically busy too) to remind me to slow down and just BREATHE.

She's one up on me.

I have no idea how my tile feels on my bare chest.

Chuckle.

You KNOW that will change REAL SOON. *giggle*

and thank you lovie, with hugs.

Some women know how to play dog. My ex used to roll over and play dead real good! LOL!

I like your style, lady. My tail will beat with applause for you any day!

Celeste...You captured the scene real well and your heart's resolve is something anyone who knows dogs at all can relate to.

Great stuff!

*sniffing at Chris* ROFL..you are too cute.

And thanks for sharing the smiles with me.

Y'gotta love em, huh? But as I just told a friend, "Annie" is taking advantage of the fact that I'm sitting HERE, and she has taken up MY spot on the couch, and on MY pillow too!

Hey!

Gimme that remote control, bad dog!

and hugs all.

My dog, talks to me when I come home from a hard day so she has a tough job. But yeah being a dog sounds like a good thing except for the baths, ughhh.

Karen:

this is  . . .
had to smile because it reminded me
of Bear, he OWNED US lol
and yes, I have always said
that I am not coming back here
uh huh no way
(I will even do the dishes for
eternity, if I must)
but if I absolutely have to
I want to be a dog . . .
smiling at this:

I shook my head and laughed at me--
then I walked around
again
just the way I always did...

exactly . . .
