It was Jake who called.
His whiskey-toned voice rougher than usual
As he told me the news
Ending with,
“I thought you’d want to know.”

“Thanks”
was all that came out.

It has been a while since she
Had even crossed my mind,
But with his words I was taken back
To the times along the dusty roads
When staring out the windshield
She had dominated my thoughts
And drove me inside with a heart
That ached for something neither of us
Seemed to have enough of to share.

Lacy crossed my thoughts then
And her touch that in gentle lay of smile
On seeing me would quicken something
I’d thought dead within.

……………………………………….
“Tell me no sorrowful tale of goodbye
Don’t let the sun or the moon leave the sky
How would the world ever be sane
If I thought I’d never see you again?

They tell me the way is not easy
And I have heard that the winters are cold
Still I would gladly take up that journey
If in the end it was you I could hold”
………………………………………..

Two days later I found myself
Just east of the Red with the sun
Coming up behind me like the memories
Of all those days and nights we spent

It glowed
              Not yet warm
And with not quite enough light for me
To pick out the details or to find
The right road
On my own

........................

DUST OF SNOW
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Ron:

ahh the ghosts do like to haunt,
now don't they?
Sometimes it is quite nice though

And drove me inside with a heart
That ached for something neither of us
Seemed to have enough of to share.

Yes, a pity, truly . . . I know
This is lovely
sorrowful

so achingly beautiful, with contrasts that add depth and meaning.

Ron, this is superb.  Loved every line, the flow exceptional...the rhyme...well, there you go, you captured my heart.  You know I love rhyme any time and when it is sprinkled into a Cpat write...I got to be in heaven.

You grabbed me from the title and held me till the end.The ghosts always seem to haunt the mind in Oklahoma.I can say that for I'm living there.

Another wonderfully beautiful write...in these words I have cut and pasted her is one thought....

Maybe, just maybe that is our truest value in life..to realize what love can and will do and how it fourishes no matter what happens, without it, we realize we are nothing, with it, we are complete, when we find that one person, who singular makes us just that together?????

Wonderful write my friend.  Thank you for sharing.
