The Thorn

Your dream of love, so humbly born
Of innocence, the bloom is sketched
But petal visions finely etched
Between the heart and mind are torn
And of the rose is left the thorn

You dream of sighs that scent the morn
With fragrances that breathe your breath
And vow until your final death
A faithfulness so duly sworn
But of the rose is left the thorn

His vine with promises adorned
Each promise is a rose of bliss
Each rose bestowed the sweetest kiss
Each kiss disguises only scorn
And of the rose is left the thorn

So dream your dreams before you mourn
Sweet rose, unknowing of the truth
On tangled vines in throws of youth
But let this withered rose forewarn -
Of every rose is left a thorn

No flower on earth escapes the storm
That blows the petals from the bower
With no remorse for any flower
But when his vine is duly shorn
What then remains is but a thorn

Liz...it is so easy to ignore the fact of thorns, when there is so much beauty in a rose when it's first born.

Hi Liz ... what a wonderful poem with a lesson for us. No rainbows without rain, no roses without thorns.

Hope you are well ... huggles, Marti

Awesome! I really enjoyed this one. The repetition of the last time really grabbed me.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Elizabeth, your poetry always speaks with pure wisdom and love, sweet friend, I too believe this with all my heart, as God would never mean to leave the thorn there just to feel the sting, but simply to offer us wisdom that beauty has tears and love sometimes bleeds but all the same if love is true the rose will always bloom! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, I've missed your lovely poetry soooooo much and am so happy you're back, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shien upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

No pain - no gain!
I would suffer that old thorn anytime for time with a rose
Nice reading you m'friend.

What a beautiful piece Liz. Fantastic meter and rhyme scheme flowing throughout, with a lovely repetition to bring the message home. Just beautiful indeed. It's always wonderful to read you, my friend.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

What a beauty this is! *S* But some things are worth a bleeding thumb. *S*
