~

The lil’ number with thighs of thunder walked up to the plate,
straddlin’ corners, grabbin’ dirt, pointin' the bat up straight.
Her hips were rockin’ side to side, her body crouched down low,
The pitcher aimed right down the pike and let her fast pitch go.

“Steerrike one,” the umpire turned, his right arm shot out straight,
she stepped outside the batter’s box and made the pitcher wait.
She banged the bat against her cleats, she spit inside her palm,
and stepped back up to rock again, her air was cool and calm.

The pitcher shook her head just once, then nodded in agreement,
She’d throw a curve, low outside, the ball would drop like cement.
She paused a bit, then let ‘er rip, ball took a dip and a dive,
That lil’ blonde, she gripped the bat and swung for a line drive.

“Steerrike two,” the umpire turned, that arm went flyin’ then,
“Time!” he yelled, he brushed the plate, then strutted back again.
That lil’ gal, she stepped back up and settled in to swing,
The pitcher eyed the catcher’s sign, then let her off-speed zing.

Thunder thighs did find her stride and swung and hit that ball,
and sent it far into the sky and over the left field wall,
That blonde haired gal, she ran head down, all around the bases,
then in from third, she came on home, one of her favorite places.

You keep giving me something unexpected...you have a way with titles, and a flair for rhyme!  Keep it up!

Thank you sunshine, I write alot about my family, and this one is about any one of my three daughters who grew up playing fast pitch softball. Two of them got scholarships to play. They only dabble now, but being on those teams kept them out of trouble.. each one of my three girls thinks this poem is specifically about them. lol

Thank you for your comment..

most of the time the term "thunder thighs" would be derogatory but in this case...
but  this one has spirit...and strength...and I can feel the love behind the name.
