We have been friends
For such a long time
I missed you when you were gone
And am glad you came back

Soon you will leave again
And I have something
I want to say
Come closer so I can whisper

I haven’t forgotten a time
When we were together
The sports bar, watching the game
Harmonious Monks, and your friend,
Starbucks, and the place by the river

I haven’t forgotten the talks we had
From marriage, love, and kids to football,
Movies and music
I remember it all

I know we are supposed to be friends first
I know I wasn’t supposed to feel what I did
When you kissed me

You know how we want so much from love?
Someone that will love us regardless of how we look
What we say
Or how stupid we can be?

Someone that will be there when we need them
And step aside when we don’t
Someone that will fight a war in the others honor
And hold us when despair comes knocking

My dearest friend
My beautiful lover

I love you like that
And this time when you go away
My heart will break

I felt very emotional and teary-eyed as I was reading your poem, but after reading in one of your replies how this writing came about, my stomach began to hurt!--Did I ever tell you that I'm an empath! Actually, I believe the majority of poets are!

Gemma~ me to...me to.

EA~I find myself going back to read this piece over and over.  Just because it came from the depths of my heart and I didn't think it was possible to put into words how I felt about him...Thank you for understanding.

To have known a true partner is a thing of joy.  Yes, to lose that is terrible, but imagine if you lived this life with only the speculation that this type of bond might be possible; wondered, but never knew.

This is a beautiful statement of human need and human loss.  That the loss is painful does not detract from the beauty of knowing.

Thank you for sharing what is really a statement of hope.

I wish you well.

I believe friends forever, until the romance ends, then friends no more. One always has an agenda.  Letting go can hurt so much.  Nice write.  Peace, Joe
