                    The Multitudes

                    Everything happens at 3 a.m.,
but it is all happening somewhere else.

                    It’s quiet here,
                    except for the crickets,
and that ‘s the way I like it.

This is as singular as I can get,
as free as I can ever be allowed.

The multitudes that I must play
                    during the day
                    are asleep with them,
                    not knowing what they miss.

I don’t care what they have to face
                    “tomorrow”.

                    I’ll be there, of course,
                    off to one side,
trying to keep them free of the trouble
                    that always arises.

                    Disguises require maintenance
                    you know,
and after all of these years
                    I’ve grown weary of it.

Could I let them all fail?
                    Could I let them pale
by the side of the road?

                    Perhaps I should . . .
but then where would I go,
                    being the only one,
                    at 3 a.m.?

Yes, let the facades fall away exposing the true of you. You may find that you are your own best company!

Don't they?

Love those lines...

Watching someone make mistakes, even fail is never easy..

Very Nicely done.

EA,
Oh, but that's the scary part . . . would I dare?

Crystal,
But is that enough?
Thanks for your comment.

Susan,
Ah, but they are my disguises!
Appreciate your compliment.

h,
I think you know that place . . .

Dixie,
Thank you.
