I am ancient and alone, beyond the pen
where nothingness, piled upon the careless
weight of hope, seems the only option
of an unkempt mind

Bring charms of envy, a flickering tongue
of honey, to soothe the beast and rest
weary burdens for which I find no escape
nor prospect mercy

Dance fairly; crash down with sanguine grout,
grind skull on bone, twirl, spin and dizzy a distance
between us till flesh is pressed against
the pain of want

Flow down; stand in human seed and feel the
warmth of pulse, forgotten till there are
moments to recollect the dread of another
mountaintop to disremember

Search beyond the reachable horizons,
laser blue infinity skies cast shadows, paths of
gold cut ribbons of fear through the heart of
the reckless adventurer

Gather together a monument of dispassionate
illusions and declare a moment of silence,
When forever slip the prison
Of all expectation

(I saw a rose clinging to life in the heated,
sulfur sky, and when the aroma touched me,
intoxicated, I returned to the comfort
of your charms)

OMG...

I want the name of your Muse

A friend dropped by unexpectedly with a dozen yellow roses this afternoon. I think I'll go inhale their fragrance and see if I am stirred to write with such passion, and creative imagery!

This is incredible.  I had to read it aloud the second time to let it soak through...

Shaking my head in awe of you!

ah, i returned to the comfort of your charms....what a wonderful ending. there's always someone in our lives that takes us into the world of the abstract and has a familiar tenderness and wonder. thanks for the thoughts.

and even when everything was wrong, and we were mad at the world, it was still beautiful.
