(o:*Those Nehi Days

Rememebering back to radio dedications the top forty by Casey Casem, and rides on the back of motorcycles feeling excited that he might like me.
County fairs, and nighttime street dances
The things of youth I fancy.
My hiphugger jeans, and white eyelet crop top
blue jeans shorts rolled up, because that was the way everyone wore them
Cotton candy, and bicycle rides
across the levy berry-filled on both sides all the way across.
swimming at the city pool
from 1 til 9 at night, and not wanting to leave
just one more dive,
and long before the concession stand had already closed
Wishing I had another cinnamon Jolly rancher
because I loved that hot taste that burned my mouth
or a box of little hot tamales, chewy like gumdrops
walking to the little store for a grape Nehi, and my bag of chips,
or an RC and peanuts. my friend with her Dr. Pepper or Pepsi
always dumping her whole bag of peanuts into her Pepsi bottle.
Fresca's...the nightmares that crowded the store shelves.. a drink
that to this day escapes me why they lasted even as long as they did. Nehi...a little touch of heaven we'd stop for on the way to our yearly summer camping trip. Nehi...Oh where are you? Come back and grace us with those better days...bring 'em back those Nehi's grape, orange, or strawberry. And those days playing in the back yard with the water hose, squeezing lemons, and egg, mayonaise in our hair to bring out blonde highlights..At 10 in the morning going to Astroworld, and mid-night at night going back home...spending the day whirling, and rollercoasting, and snacking, shooting in the gallery, swirling, and coasting some more. The night before cooking chicken to take with us and leaving it in a locked locker at the front of the park so we could save money. Then meeting the cool guy with the red and black charger...the coolest car in town. Him taking me to the lake in this car that sounded the coolest. Swimming all day, and losing his class ring, and diving back in to the muddy water coming back up with this mammoth ring of his thanking God that I wouldn't be killed, because I lost his High school ring. My heart skipped beats, and I was so happy he wasn't mad at me. Going to football games on friday night, and a dance after every game. Thoughts of summer days of youth past, and school days all in a spin in my remembering radio dedications, and the top ten, and Nehi days wishing they were here again!!!

SharaRose, I love this!! I liked all these things you're talking about...even the Fresca every now and then. This brought back some really good memories.

Hi...Thanks to all of you...

QJQ-- Thanks Q. I'm glad you liked the memories, but truade? Maybe we are from different part of the country. I've never heard of Truade. I bet it was good, too!

garysgirl--Thanks Ethel. I'm glad you liked. Memories are kind of fun to go back to. to you girl.

EvocativeVerse2--Thank you for reading, and I'm glad you enjoyed. Nehi's were the best thing to come along. I'm an avid coca-cola drinker, or was, and for me they beat coca-cola hands down!! But sadly they are no more.
A part of Americana I am sad my sons missed.
all,

(smiles) Oh Shara, sadly I didn't get to grow up during this magical era because I was born in 1983! (shows sad puppy dog face) But that's OK because your gorgeous poetry made me feel I was there, yay! (does happy dance) Hehehe, I know someone who loves to put trail mix in their Dr. Pepper, sweet friend, and you didn't mean to try to lose your best friend's ring and I'm happy he didn't get mad as you are a very special person! (big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is beautiful, I wish I could have lived back then, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Shara, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Make that a transistor radio...[I could pick up LA all the way from Santa Maria very very late at night...] and Orange Nehi's, cold from the ice chest...and Fresca's, with beef jerky....

oh dear, your heart was very much in this one, and took mine, as well...

Thanks to both of you...

Noah-- Thank you so much for reading, and the comment. hehe .. Oh yeah I was scared to death when that ring came off my finger. I dove back in off the same stump..held my hand out, and grabbed, and there it was. That's a miracle I will never forget, because the lake is muddy water. "PHEW" was all I could think in that split moment!!!
I wish for you the same I do with my sons. I wish all of you could have seen times back then. You don't know what you missed. If I could just give you a peek..you'd want to go for a visit in time!!! I'd walk you through those days and see how things were then.

Sunshine-- Thanks so much. Yes you are right. Little transistors were the thing back then. Many moons have passed since then, and seems another lifetime. Those were the good ol' days. Lots of fun!!!!

to you both,
