Village Earth
9/11/03

Two years ago this morning
on a calm and sunlit day
The clear blue sky of freedom
now lay dim in clouds of gray

The world as we once knew it,
now would never be the same
The embers of dissension
once again burst into flames

The saddened fury that we felt,
for those who died in vain
Was like a fire burning wild,
through amber colored grain

Why is it that our freedom comes
at such a towering cost?
How do you pay the families
for the loved ones they have lost?

How can we make the differences
we have come to an end?
What will it take for all of us
to finally transcend?

It’s never easy trying to heal
a wound that cuts so deep
It’s always hard to hold back all
the vengefulness it reaps

We have to find a common ground
where everyone can share
The light of hope that takes away
the darkness of despair

Where everyone has dignity
and we can live in peace
Where those who have the hardest
life can take out a new lease

Some say that we should just be
happy for the life we’ve got
But who have we become when we
stop wondering why not?

There is no you and them no more,
that’s not how it should be
In this village we call earth,
there’s really only we

Amen.

I love this, Richy...beautifully said.

There you are! Good to see you--and read you! A beautiful and meaningful write. I doubt that anyone could read your compassionate words and not feel them.
