Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2003-09-15 10:12 PM

coffeehouse rhythm
remembering the hymns of few
straining to
weave upon the steam of cappachinos

sipped
with lips careful

mixing tiny ideas
into a blend of mocha smoothness
cigarettes shared
poised on ashtrays
timely tapping with the beats of words

near silvery perfection
over the din

you can still hear me
read
euphoniously
deliberate pauses and stress
of metered expression

a handful of stares
transfixed
upon me

charred remnants
bleeding souls
within my grasp
the pen is my companion
paper
fine

only this I know

breathe
exhale
breathe into sweet, smoky air
sticky with emotion

lick these lips
with tongue
parched from ages of neglect
too long
too long

you are so far away

inhale
drums
hear cadence wild

'twixt measured lines
I steal my glances
at
perfectly intermixing coffee eyes
sipping.

the
last
word

is mine

drowned from the sounds
of gentle applause
poetical utopia
my smiles only meant for your gaze

must I break from this euphoria
of Friday night poetry highs
my own little world..

at the corner of 5th and Main

For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.--"Romeo and Juliet"

Indigo...I love this.  You took me there...
Very nicely done.
