She stood….there upon the precipice.
Eyes focusing on a distant dust storm,
wondering.

Might this be the coming of my  Lord,  she asks
Herself?  Butterflies fluttering within the chest
of this maiden.   Might he be home at last,  after
these months away.

Standing ever so still,  reflecting on month’s that
have felt  an eternity,   on the countless days
when suitors badgered and attempted to court her.
Nay,  for her love was for him,  even while she
thought of the moments when HE,  her love might
have been unfaithful.   Spoils of war some might
say.  The seed of man useless when not planted
in the fertile soils…

Remembering her,  the flaxen haired wench with
the eyes that saw a man’s soul.   Eyes that would
tear down kingdoms,  shatter the sturdy walls of
mighty castles.   Eyes of deceit,  of treachery.
Widow’s eyes…   Only she drew fear from
her heart.   For no man possessed such strength
and resolve,  no man..

Standing,  gown fluttering in the coolness of
yet another afternoon…..a tear traveling silently
down a delicate cheek.

She waits…

Barry... you paint a desolate and powerful protrait of the emotions here... a scene perhaps captured with thought that my minds eye, anyway, found pleasing in its understanding...
nicely done as usual...

not bad for an old man.. not bad at all..

OMG! I cannot believe this! I just read poems by Ethel and gem, and each of them were :keepers: because they were my favorite poems of theirs'!

Now I come across this masterpiece by you, that captures my passion and imagination, and it too is a . I'm not one to save poems that often, but when a poem touches me, teaches me, or is of some other signicance--like brilliance!--I save them.

One of your finest, Dear Poe-et!

Loves 'n hugs,
Linda

Barry, is there more?? Please? I love it when you write
of the Lords and their Ladies. I'm keeping this one, too, Sir Magnus.

I've written so many poems. about so many things ..save ones about kings and queens. I've got to do that. Thanks for putting the thoughts back to do that. I don't know when it would be, but I love that period in time.
I liked this...thanks for sharing!!

captivating, provocative

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
