Saluting with misty eyes

0 posted 2003-09-12 02:59 PM

Dressed in black and surrounded
A ring of fire everywhere he looks
He might have been named Sue
His daddy said he was John
The world just called him Sir
He started this life in lock-up
Dressed in Fulsom Prison Blues
And when he left gave it back
Along with his Empire of Dirt
A highwayman born, and so he lived
Chasing the ghost herd through the clouds
The world claims he is dead
Yet to those of us who truly know
He's just gone for a bit
To sing his songs somewhere again

I saw this in Noah's post, and hoped you would put it up on its own.  Well done, Ringo.  You captured, albeit momentarily, a most elusive man...

for his spirit is boundless.

Thank you for this wonderful tribute.  I can see him sitting around with the others of his time, and June presiding with her wonderful smile, and her hospitality for all...isn't it a wonderful thought?

(big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, dearest friend, whoever his name was, and wherever he is, he is the man in black with an earnest voice and an acoustic guitar that'll never wane! (sigh) Thank you so very much for formally introducing this fine tribute to my poem thread, as I have long been a fan of Johnny Cash and no matter what, the highways will reverberate his words of wisdom! This is an exdellent debut, dearest friend, I will share my tribute this evening, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ringo, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

His was a soul which walked through its own fire to bring the world a sense of life uniquely focused.

He was a man who knew it takes choice to stand up after you've been hit.

Thank you for posting this.

Some artists spend their entire careers trying to be something designed in advance.

...and occasionaly one spends his entire career becoming what he already is. Those are the ones you remember.

Sunshine- yes, I believe you are right... Johnny and June together again. Thank you.

Nancy- He was one of a rapidly dying breed, wasn't he? Thanks.

Noah- it's hard not to be a fan. Thanks for the kind words.

martie- I remembered he had a song like that and figured that's exactly what he's doing. Thank you for reading.

marge- Thank you. You are always supportive.

I agree with everyone above...and I like the way you instilled many of his song roles, as the 'Highwayman' etc...  Just think of the band those guys have going somewhere!!! ~S~

Ringo, I also agree with everyone above me about this great man who was so real. He and June both were just good old down-home folks. Now they are together again.
Hugs to you
