Born of Earth
strapped and suede
sand stone speakin'
a velvet parade
'neath her flat foot
bare beat
brazen eyed
to all who meet
her one thumb
in denim notch

You dont know what you have
'till you've lost what you got

Life upon her back
thumb cocked with a smile
hitching high for a ride
live for today, not tomorrow
The miles have spoken
soundtrack plays in her mind
letting go of her life
that daily grind
Face freckled fine
will yet to be broken

You've got to love what you have
or give up what you've stolen

Sue...I LOVE THIS!
Love the words...the rhythm...love ALL of it.
Tried to pick a favorite part, but couldn't do it...*smile*

altho i'm not sure just what this is about i got to say it did leave me remembering many a journey by a naive boy up and back highways 1 and 101 twix san francisco and mexico, brown suede fringed vests, the fillmore auditorium(before there was a east and west),blue osley and orange barrel lsd, three finger lids of mexican pot, buffalo spingfield and on and on...kind of wonder if theres not a hint of the lost wonder of youth here or maybe the refusal to grow up,well whatever i enjoyed it.

Live like it's your last day...
Dance like nobody's watching...
Love like you've never been hurt...

what id do to get hit on the head, and be stuck in that times timewarp......to leave this wretched ball and chain the earth has become since then.......

Thank you for the picture this created in my mind.  Your descriptions truly come alive. Though I didn't live in 68, I found similarities with this girl (at least at one time).  Still sure of her power to conquer the world!  Brings memories to mind.

Great write!

Dressed in peasant blouse
and still servicable blue jeans

She stands on the macadam...
The very sun that heats the asphalt
gleams her eyes, chocolate

And she stands

With her thumb comfortably resting
in the denim at her waist
Her fingers splayed on the hip
that she "leads" with.

And she compels

Those, of like kind
to convey her on her journey
never straight, but always
progressively forward...

Mmm Hmmm. You have indeed, taken me there.
Thank you m'love!

hehehe...this is so cool..just this morning I was telling hubby that I want to lose weight so I can wear jeans again.. that thumb in denim notch made me yearn for my jeans again, and I love suede jackets with the fringe. Me thinks you and I have a kindred spirit in dress...hehehe!!! Nice to read.

(smiles) I may have never been born during that wonderful era (in my opinion, at least) but I sure met you there in this beautiful write and I'm lovin' it! (kiss on cheek) I wish I could have been one of the Merry Pranksters (I would pass on the grass of course) and get to ride around and hear the stories of Neil Cassady and company! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, thank you for taking me back, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
