We travelled along
   separate pathways,

then and now,

diverged...

in a mutually exclusive moment
    (separate interpretations)

SUBMERGED.

Sans wings (and visual or mental clarity)
    even as we stood

UNITED
   (separately)

cloaked and daggered
    DEFENSIVELY....

BUT AS A SPECIES
    have we

EMERGED?

I know, I know...I took poetic 'license' and exercised poetic 'liberty' with the word diverged...not usually used as a past tense verb.

I've a theory that there is a predatory species among us, so camoflaged and specific in its nature, living to hunt us down in spite of our big brains and sensory adaptations.... so close to us it can even mate and produce offspring....

....but it's not us. It's Them.
