Summer Barriers [another screened challenge]

They said it was only
To keep out flies and mosquitoes
But it didn’t keep out summer
Unless it rained

And if you hugged the window sill
Tight
When it rained
With the window in slight open
Cool air mixed with metal and dust

You played with ideas
When you looked out into the gray
Wandering off, as you did
Without getting wet, and all

And there was a time
Or two
That I melted through the mesh,
Myself, when I wasn’t counting
The holes of it,
Trying to see beyond, to where you hid
In the gray

And sometimes, the smallest spiders
Watched you leave
Keeping me company
Until my sigh
Made them shudder,
And scurry.

Remember?

At the time, I thought I was the only one in the world who ever did this. It's good to know now that there were more of us, and to know who some of them are now, what they became.

Well done...desriptive and sweet. It was the title that pulled me in to read this. It intrigued me...what could the Summmer Barriers be? And then after reading the last line I said...yes...yes...yes. You took me to where immagination would not have led without your guidance. Thank-you Sunshine. Wonderful verse!

If you ever wish, you can change your name of "Sunshine" to Phrasemaker...lol  Well done.  KJ

I remember the screen on my childhood dormer window...and the dust left on my nose pressing against it with my daydream.  Thank you for this memory, Karilea.

Karilea, you play with ideas in the most wonderful way. Thank you for another painting of words!

The rain, the dust, the old rusty screen . . .
thanks for the recollection.
