Listening to every heart

Forgive Me, If I Faltered

Day didn’t start at zero
but began life again as day one
tumbling, then crumbling
obliterating sun

By day two, though still standing
in shock we walked along
moving, acting, breathing
then someone sang a song

Forgive me, if I faltered

Now day three is close to end
on drive home, I saw
trees adorned red, white, blue
school grounds were dressed anew

Messages of love were flying
from town to city to ‘burb
and everyone was swelling
to come forth with smallest word

Forgive me, if I faltered

It took but a moment’s reprieve
and a voice, spoken in soft tone
tears began to well, then swell
and I, I am not alone

But God, please, allow the tears
for the ones who lost their dears
for the ones who truly hurt
and God? here, here is my shirt…

Forgive me, if I faltered

Find for my hands a duty or two
give me strength and then some
lift my spirit for the work
for in tomorrow, it shall come

And steady me as I falter
strengthen me from wavering
hold me up if I stumble
for freedom, I am savoring

Allow me pause, now and then
to give You credit, as is due
though reasons are unknown to me
I place my trust in You

oh my................
I believe I missed this one before, I hope you submitted it somewhere...it needs to be, its one of the best "9/11" poems I've read. Im grateful I didnt miss it this time...and I have to smile now, thinking that Im not surprised you would be the one to write it.

When was the last time you felt this high,
you are the best I've ever felt.
Its so wrong not to be with you
Its getting harder to stay away.

Wow, this one is EXCELLENT, Karilea. You revive those feelings of confusion and pain so well...

When God's plan is not clear to us, it helps to remember that God is Love.  Your poem resonates with that truth.

Karilea, this is absolutely beautiful and I agree with Janet Marie...it's one of the best 9/11 poems I've read.

And...I'm keeping it.

Ah....the mistress of the "right" phrase says what we all felt that day.  I'm glad you reposted for I'd missed it the first time around.  KJ
