I know what the moon speaks of
on nights like last,
not perfect at all, so shadowed
and quartered and distilled by the glow
of color from the falling sun.

It detailed a cloud
and enchanted the sidewalk
where I walked darkly
around the block and down the alley,
the middle of the street my path
and lights closing down to sleep
the city seemed to all be breathing
long pale breaths
slumbering in drained verve.

I heard a sigh from a driveway
an echo of my own
it stumbled and dropped at my feet
and I stopped,
I could hear my own breath
and in the  silence I had made
with my presence
no crickets hummed.

Then a coyote called from far away
igniting another
as the tree lined street focused
the scent of jasmined air
and Vavaldi whispered summer
from an open window.

I know what the moon speaks.

It speaks of coupling this solitude,
of yearning that is almost palpable;
it speaks of time ticking out
and it says leave room for a dance
in candle lit room
and the wax melting into morning
----

What a wonderful poem to read late at night....and a mighty fine one to live, something to wish for whether we have it or not.

When reading your poems, the word "excellent" keeps crossing my mind..The words of this one crissed and crossed many times, carrying the weight of that word..
Excellent indeed!
Like Frost, you are aquainted with the night, its magics and its mysteries. Thank you for sharing them with me....ice/ford

Well,  all I can say is that imperfection
never reads quite so beautifully as when you write it!!

Nicely done Martie~

(smiles) Oh Martie, you certainly do know what the moon speaks, sweet friend, because you are one with the moon and despite the yearning, through the cycle you are bound to find the greatest peace and illumination to your soul! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Martie,
"It speaks of coupling this solitude,
of yearning that is almost palpable;
it speaks of time ticking out

and the wax melting into morning"

Creating fresh memories of when the moon shined even brighter. Nice, so very nice.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
