~

I’d play a little Chopin, if I could stroke the keys,
mazurka or a prelude, etude I’d play with ease,
and treasure timbral beauty found within a polonaise,
I’d play his waltz for pianoforte in small sidewalk cafes.

I’d play a little jazz for you if I could blow a horn,
a tune from Miles Davis, for those souls lost and forlorn,
my horn would weep with sorrow’s notes like no one’s ever heard,
I’d wail a soulful ‘Summertime,’ and cry out every word.

If I could play a saxophone, I’d play a little blues,
I’d play like Charlie Parker, of life's nuances and hues,
I’d drive that alto sax until it lifted up to fly,
and play his ‘Cosmic Eyes’ to you, a lover’s lullaby.

So many gifted people play their songs that make us swoon,
but sad to say, I cannot play a solitary tune.
So I write words instead to paint my feelings when they play
their melody, a rhapsody that takes my breath away.

~

And a Rhapsody it is!  Having just watched "The Pianist", I know exactly what you are saying.  Welcome to Passions!  Please, check your E-mail for a Special Greeting!

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?

This rhapsody took my breath away, but I have to disagree with you my friend. While reading this I could hear you wondrous music beating, your trumpeets resounding, and the hark of angels in your voice.I loved it.

(smiles) Yay! But you can do whatever your heart tells you, as poetry is music altogether and truly, you are doing all these wonderful things! (big hugggsssssss) Just follow your intuition and you can play the blues and strum 12-bar chords like B.B King, this is a beautiful debut, I love it! Welcome to Passions, sweet friend, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! I can't wait to read more of your lovely words, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

This is a very good write.  It has very good rhyming and flow.  I wasn't this good when I posted my first poem on here by the way.  As I said in another post not that long ago, "Poetry is the music that the ears can't pick up".

MorninGlory - this is the first I've read of yours. You may not be able to play a tune, but you sure can write a poem...

And when I read your lines in rhyme
They form a sweet, soft melody
A beautiful Rhapsody is born
MorninGlory, I welcome thee

Your words went straight to my heart
and I'm sure this warm family of Poets will make you feel at home.

Stick to your poetry and let the musicians keep their instruments! You have a true, poetic tallent!
