the field has been plowed,

recovering from delivery
and sealed with a brown dressing
stretching over its emtpy girth for now,

the paisley leaves build a shrine around it,

watched by the pensive sky looking down,

and the blackbirds will pick a while
at its afterbirth,
until it washes out in coming storms,

and another season
will layer on those buried before it,

as the cover of sky will hold it all in place,

though all contingent on the rain to still come down
