The Last Clown
By Paul Wilson

See the smile on his face it looks so out of place
He laughs on the outside and cries on the inside
He paints a smile on face and the magic takes place
This will be his last show why we may never know

He makes us laugh so loud he stands out in a crowd
He brings us tears of joy like a child with new toy
Running and shouting loud playing pranks on the crowd
As he runs all around chasing what can’t be found

True feelings he does hide laughing on the outside
His heart is so broken from pain left unspoken
This sorrow he can’t hide it shows on the outside
With one more show to go the tears from his eyes flow

This clown called funny face he looks so out of place
With just a smile he can turn you into a fan
With red nose on his face no one can take his place
He never speaks a sound to me he’s the best clown

He is always ready this clown we call Freddy
With top hat on his head he’s the greatest it’s said
With smiles he is ready this last clown called Freddy
To heaven he did go after his last great show

I will miss his sad face no one can take his place
The stage is dark tonight for he swept out the light
With a smile on his face he greets us at Clem’s place
See the smile on his face it looks so out of place

May God Bless

Oh I just cried...what a great soul that was lost when he departed to higher planes. There they are rejoicing in the joy he brings. I can't imagine he wouldn't make people laugh on any plane he lives. As a child he was in a sense a saving grace. LOVELY words for a most lovely man!!! BRAVO!!
And Mr. Skelton..wish you were here to give us an Encore performance!!! Mr. Eternal Clown!!! you is what this verse, and (my) spirit does. Thank you so much for sharing this. to you for remembering such a man in verse.

Paul - There was only one!  Your dedication was absolutely wonderful and if I may remind everyone of one of the most important things he ever did on any show, was explaining about his teacher, his school, and that the students were finding reciting the Pledge of Allegiance monotonous, then he recited your "Pledge of Allegiance" to the audience, his way:

(big hugggssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, once again I didn't grow up during he time he was at the peak of his career as so many celebrities I admire were popular well before I was born, yet I have heard of him and look back on the many emotions he brought upon many fans and he truly is THE clown with heart! (wipes tears) This is a beautiful tribute, sweet friend, and trust me, he will always put on an encore up above, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Paul, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

This was somewhat sad, but also beautiful. They way you recalled his life and all that he gave.Only you could have done this tribute justice.

Nancy...Thanks for that lovely reply. He was a great performer. One of the most sincere people that was put here on earth. I loved his closing line also and how he would sweep out the spot light shining on the stage floor. So glad you enjoyed...Paul
