The hero never came.

The hero never came.
The boy wept. Miserable, hurt, confused.
He weeps for Camelot lost.
No heroes ride forth.

He never came.
Teen angst brings tears and blood.
The bitter taste of soured dreams.
He weeps for Camelot lost.
No trumpet sounds.

He never came.
The young man hates and seethes.
Everything is vile and false.
How could this be done to him?
He weeps for Camelot lost.
No crowds cheer.

He never came.
The man shrugs and takes the slack.
He finds a weeping boy, and makes him smile.
There are no heroes, but the man shall listen.
Should you call him he will come.
He weeps for Camelot lost...
and the banner flutters in his heart.

and the banner flutters in his heart, creating a hero where there is none.
Wonderful!

I love this.

I was thinking along a similar theme of late as I was recalling and re-reading cargo cults, and I wondered how many times the Holy Grail had been found...empty.

I enjoyed this immensely.

With this style of writing,
a hero might yet be found.

Perhaps the hero had been there all along... invisibly nestled within???

Great poem, BK...

You write of no hero
But hero is everyday man to everyday boy
I have hero, but he denies, makes him more hero to me

Perfectly written, and a very thoughtful piece!!  I like your style, Black Knight, and Camelot is not lost as long as knights still ride on...~S~
