Through night’s vastness
known as midsummer’s sky,
a comet flies like a skipping rock
across a placid pond,
breaking the serenity
of a trillion twinkling stars,
leaving not a rippled trace.
Below,
shrunk to fit heaven’s earthen mirror,
a great horned owl
soars across land’s scape
breaking the tranquility
of warm midsummer’s night
leaving not a trace
as a million twinkling fireflies
scurry here and there
across the vastness of the plains
like fieldmice in search
of moonbeam seeds.
Alone,
I gaze betwixt the two,
Midsummer’s sky
And earth below,
The night is one of ebony,
With darkened land,
Luna cloaked,
Face unrevealed,
No man can see
Except for twinkling,
A trillion stars,
A million fireflies,
Melding together
As sky and earth
Become as one
And I,
Am one,
With night’s vastness,
Known as midsummer’s sky.

Look at the jewel I found in the midnight sky!
I'm keeping this beauty.
Love the imagery, the feel of this one.

Oh Tim, this is absolutely beautiful!!!
I am so glad that I found it. I love the stars
in the night skies.
