Mall Rat Shim-Sham
By: Noah Eaton
9/3/03

I looked down from the escalator
Saw all the Glamour Kids and the Easy Readers
Get their prescriptions at Lenscrafters
All a sudden it seems clear; what you're looking for ain't here
There's something about the Alamo Flags and discounts at Champs
That makes your lips chapped and clam up your hands
Together we can find those True Colors
Just out the revolving door I know a World of Wonder

Where Tomorrow's Treasures are Things Remembered
It's in Nature's Own Imagination
I believe the Hot Topic is on this apathy
That is disrupting our Intuitive Solutions
I believe the Sharper Image belongs inside
Those Easy Spirits who get in their own groove
It's Your Move, so advance to the Finish Line
I'll believe it and see it with my own eyes

You see teeny-boppers thumbing through the Nordstrom Rack
Resting their stance on the Nordic-Track
Cruisin' upon Old Navy and getting their feet stuck in the Gap
When a holiday in the Banana Republic is no season pass
Victoria's Secret is now exposed all over the tabloids
Feels the Veteran's Pride has grown devoid
OshKosh B'Gosh, please help us God
Just out the revolving door is everything you really want

Tomorrow's Treasures are Things Remembered
It's in Nature's Own Imagination
I believe the Hot Topic is on this apathy
That is disrupting our Intuitive Solutions
I believe the Sharper Image belongs inside
Those Easy Spirits who get in their own groove
It's Your Move, so advance to the Finish Line
I'll believe it and see it with my own eyes

When I raise a toast
I dedicate it the most
To those more modest Wizards of the Coast
I'll reluctantly take my sleep number
Rest my weary head and wonder
Of a Silver Empire we may discover...

Because Tomorrow's Treasures are Things Remembered
It's in Nature's Own Imagination
I believe the Hot Topic is on this apathy
That is disrupting our Intuitive Solutions
I believe the Sharper Image belongs inside
Those Easy Spirits who get in their own groove
It's Your Move, so advance to the Finish Line
I'll believe it and see it with my own eyes

You don't have to spend one J.C Penny
To cash in that Field of Dreams
You don't have to spend one J.C Penny
To cash in that Field of Dreams...

I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
I can see the sun set and I perceive

This sounded more like Mall Rat flim flam, but advertising is good...isn't it?

Hi lil bro, and this is a great topic for thought, as the Malls are worldwide, and each has it's own subculture according to the area.  If one takes a close look, they can see that the independent stores are closing up in favor of the big Malls.  Humans are social, and will always need the gathering places.  Good subject, excellent write, Noah!!!  ~S~

Hi Noah ... this is a brillliant masterpiece and I wish I had had it with me the day I got stuck at the Mall with all those Mall Rats and their Mom's. I know I used to be there with my kids, but now that I am older, it somehow it seemed like a feeding frenzy and I couldn't get out fast enough! Guess my age and tolerance is really showing!!

Great, great line that I shall remember always.

Hugs love, Marti
