Near golden sunsets

0 posted 2003-09-02 11:00 PM

The waves crash along the shore,
blustering with the salty gulf breeze.
It was a long, hot walk down Morgerum Street,
but the view across the Palacios Bay
was more than worth it.

I was told to go find her,
and given a month's vacation to do just that.
I guess John noticed the emptiness
that filled my days,
the late nights I kept in the office.
He threatened to fire me
if I didn't come back happy.

John's a great guy.

She named this town once,
just in passing;
said she'd been here once or twice.
Her parents, of all people,
brought her here for Spring Break
and, again, the next year
when she was younger.

Even her voice makes me smile.
Or, the memory of her voice.
She didn't even say goodbye;
just a note written in that
flowery script of a dreamer,
left on the night-stand while I slept,
reliving the dance she danced that night.

It comes unbidden, now,
each time my eyes drift shut
The sa'sara, she called it;
she'd read about it once.
"The Queens outlawed it," she said,
"But to no avail.  Wars have started
because of this dance."

And I can well believe it.
Hannah has kept me up
these last two months,
with just the memory of the sa'sara.

My blood is still boiling.

Smiling.  So many things about this I like,
probably the best thing about it, is that it
came from you.

Do it again.

Continue the story.

Enjoyed this vignette. Keep dancing in your dreams, MI. Perhaps the real dancer will sa'sara onto your dance floor again someday.
