Latino expressions,
graffiti portraits of souls,
of thoughts, feelings, wars
and women.

Midnight excursions into forbidden
territories by Van Gogh wannabies
in tennis shoes and baggy pants.

Nearby, the sounds of Latin music
reverberating inside the smoke
filled room as long necks gather
in front of souls looking for the
winning Lotto ticket.

Seven dollars an hour pouring concrete.
A twelve pack under the arm
on the way to a old worn out
over crowded mobile home
with a window air conditioner
in the living room and a single
fan slowly turning in the ceiling.

A baby crying in the back room
and one more on the way.  Too
many mouths and too many Lotto
tickets.....hoping for that dream
that never does come true...

Watching the weather, for rain
stops work and no work means
no dinero for la casa, for the
nino’s and nina’s....

Praying for fair weather and
the dream that never comes.
As music plays the Latino
blues and a baby cries...

Barry...A touching piece filled with so many truths. Their suffering is like the sweltering heat, it's always there in the fields and plants where they work so hard trying to make a living for their families.
Enjoyed the reality of this poem...Paul

Barry, you speak such truth about a great sadness in this world.I hope and pray that one day we will all be able to live equally and give unto each other as is in our hearts.
