September’s Run

They were a half mile away, but their white tails
Flashed in my eye
September is here,
The run begins

I watched until
I could see them no longer
As nature blended the colors

Their muscles stretched and in bounding
Touched me in ways
I cannot describe
My feelings still taut

I know what it is to run
From fear
I know the chances they will take
With their lives

To live through winter
To see next spring
To multiply

I will run into September, and
Carry winter with me
Into spring,
In order to see just this
Again.

Karilea....we see the endings and the beginning with different things, but the same feeling.  Loved this!

Karilea:  I loved this poem!  I see the deer around us at this time of year, with their young and know that hunting season is just looming on the horizon and it gives me shudders!  Every sighting is a special gift, as you have written so well.

Sunshine this is beautiful!  We live on five acres in the middle of no where and the deer run wild all year long.  We have to be careful leaving out our driveway (its about a half mile long) so that we dont hit one of them.  Last year we had a family living on the land somewhere, and about 6 every evening you would see all of them grazing....it was just beautiful!

Thank you for sharing your photo and your thoughts!
