My son is taking up "snare drum"--
my daughter learns the flute.
My husband plays harmonica--
worse? He thinks he's cute.

I fumble on guitar a bit--
we all war piano keys--
hammering a clamouring--
wincing at the harmony.

We have rattles. We have chimes.
We're not afraid to sing.
If we had an ounce of luck,
"oh man, we could buy anything..."

But alone I must admit,
as I take the earplugs out,
the sweetest sound I've heard all day--
was this--the silent shout.

Smiling at you...

And you know that this part made me chuckle...

Daughter just learned how to turn her radio sky high, ten year old son makes the most annoying sound effects in the world, and the thirteen year old thinks that the house is a basketball court.  Hubby has the volume on the TV wide open, and I can't hear my self think!

you know, I can't play not even one single instrument....most of my family can play one thing or another, my son is making me nuts with his recorder from last school year. He comes in and plays what he thinks sounds like a Linkin Park song....
I'm so glad they are back in school... I love the few quiet hours I get now!
enjoyed this very much

Karen~

I have been dealing with a son that has been playing guitar since the age of 12 (he is 19 today).  His favorite artist?  Ozzy!  Can you guess what kind of music he plays?

I feel your pain...

May we all join in?
quote:
Desmond has a barrow in the market place
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond says to Molly-girl I like your face
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand.
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
Lala how the life goes on
Obladi Oblada life goes on bra
Lala how the life goes on.
Desmond takes a trolly to the jewellers store
Buys a twenty carat golden ring
Takes it back to Molly waiting at the door
And as he gives it to her she begins to sing.

In a couple of years they have built
A home sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of Desmond and Molly Jones.

Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band.

And if you want some fun-take Obladi Oblada.

What a lovely memory you returned to me on a Sunday morning platter...I love this!

chuckling.

Kari? We're not that good.

Yanno, I am supposed to be moving one of these days, and the room that was built to um, KEEP me, is 15 feet away from the neighbors sound studio. He plays the drums too.

Hmmm...maybe I should take up the bagpipes?

I know, it's only rock and roll, but? sigh.

I'm gonna go have a QUIET cup of coffee while it's still somewhat early.

Hugs all...thanks for reading.

Made me laugh!

I was raised in a house that was pathologically silent.  Even today, I am noise sensitive, but sometimes I am drawn to HUGE noises (though) not music).

I have no musical talent, unless playing harmonica in hurricaines is a talent.

But...I am addicted to large, loud guns.  I shoot in competition (I went just this morning, and I know this makes me a bad person for some of the people here) but only those matches where I can use my heaviest loudest guns.

Those I shoot with have learned to step back a bit.  We all wear eye and ear prtection but the concussion can still rock you.

This morning, when I stepped into the shooting box, the guy holding the timer near my head even said timidly, "Oh, this isn't going to hurt, is it?" I paused while he put double ear protection on.

Now, I am home and want quiet, soft music, and a nap.  I am so relaxed it was a chore to drive home.

I guess I am just twisted.

P.S. Yes, my kids are allowed to make noise.

*grin*

I came back to hug the icebox too. Hmmm. Let's not analyze that. *chuckle*

Thanks so much for the story.

I was raised in a "silent" house too. (Dad worked graveyard shift.) So yep, I'm a little indulgent with the crew here.

And they ARE good about it. They wait until I stir, at least.

and hey, thanks everybody for sharing the stories. I share mine alot, hoping others will feel free to do the same.

You guys are great.
