Three doors
One of which is of time past
One of what is yet to be.
One of that which will never be.

Hand hewn oak, a brass ring handle
Standing ominously before me.
Awaiting my choice.

Should one choose a door which might
allow one to change one’s past?   What
might one desire if a single moment
were allowed to alter what was?

Or, taste the sweetness of fruit from the
vine of times yet to be.   To hold the
goblet and drink of life that has not
yet lived.

Chancing the choice of what will never be,
where time stands still and life remains
suspended in Hell.   Dare one take the
handle, cool to touch, yet powerful.
Dare one chance losing all there is now.
Is now enough?   Or should one reach
for the gold?

Imagine being able to go backwards in
time....to alter the destiny of an event
that perhaps one has regretted.   Possibly
the saving of a loved one from an
unfortunate and unseen accident.   Or,
the change of one’s ways,   that others
might not suffer from choices that hurt
or harmed?

To chose the future, to see the fruit
that has grown.   To taste the waters
of life yet lived.....To see our children,
grown, living their lives.

Which door shall it be?  Or.....
Shall one chose today as their choice.
Facing each obstacle, waiting for
tomorrow,   living each day as each
day comes....

Dang, this was amazing!  You have given me a wonderful thought this evening.  I don't know which door I would choose.  Perhaps that is the secret...to be so content with life as is, that we wouldn't take the opportunity to change it, or change it's direction!

What a wonderful write

Barry, all I know is that whatever door I were to choose in life, I would make sure that my Gary was right there to go through it with me. I honestly believe that each one of us have to make our own choice for ourselves. If we choose only what others need and want for all of our lives, we are never happy ouselves.
Hugs to you, my friend

I don't know, Mag.  I had to read this one a few times, thinking the answer would jump from your words.  Needless to say, it didn't.  You are making me think for myself...something I require from my students.  So, ya done good!  I have always lived in the future..."surely something around the corner is better syndrome."  I don't know!  I think I will revisit this poem in the morning when I don't have a 4 year old moaning and groaning...

Sheesh...thinking on a Saturday night.  Me thinks me needs a Michelob light!
