Losing a pet is as traumatic as losing any Family member; I recently wrote this for a

“Goodbye, My Faithful Friend”

You were always there;
To welcome me home.
Excited and Happy;
You're Home; You're Home!!!!!!
You always seemed to be saying.

When I brought you home;
You were so small and insecure.
Fuzzy , fluffy little ball.
Cuddling close to me,
For protection and love.

Big wondering eyes
Peeking out from under your cover.
You grew quickly, running and
playing with thrown balls;
Becoming protective and loyal;

One day, way too soon
You were no longer a puppy
With long; awkward legs.
Now a grown dog,
Handsome and strong;
.
Dutiful, and protective
Deep; searching eyes,
seeing all, missing nothing.
Alert to any sound,
Loyal companion and best friend

Giving all you had,
Asking for nothing;
But a scratch behind the ears,
A long brushing of your coat.
Head across my knees.

Way too soon,
You slowed down.
The bouncing gait,
Replaced by labored
Attempts to keep up.

One thing never changed,
The loving fire in your eyes
When you looked into my own.
Until those eyes closed
And you great heart stopped.

Now you sleep,
Under your favorite tree;
You are missed daily,
In our Hearts with us always
Goodbye my Loyal, Best Friend!!!!!!!

Yes, it is tragic to lose such a good friend, and feel such a loss.  At the moment, we have a twelve year old german shepherd who has been a loving family member, but is nearing her time, I am sad to say.  It will be so hard to say goodbye...and there is no easy way to prepare yourself for the inevitable.  I truly enjoyed this writing, and the feelings that are within it....~S~

I've been given the gift of having pets most of my life...and this one is never easy, especially since we usually have to make a choice to interviene and that's the part I hated the most...like I was playing God or something...

On a lighter note though, I'm so greatful for those many many years of joy, happiness and warmth those tender creatures gave...never asking...always turning on a light in my life...so favorable and unconditionally....how so blessed we are to, with the memories...the companionship they bestowed....probably looking down on us and smiling while saying even now "It was my pleasure".

Pets are wonderful and it's sad when we lose them. *Hugs

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

I know how it feels to have such a loyal pet. My little Scooter is like my little baby. He'll be two years old on Dec. 8th and I have gotten so attached to him that he feels like a family member.

I'm sorry for your loss.
Hugs

Thank You all for your wonderful words in reply to this Poem. I have lost many "Faithful Friends" in my Years; it is never easy to face he loss, whether it is an accident, from age, or illness. Ths feeling of loss is a deep as any family member's loss would be. So we have to love them while we are blessed with them here. Sam Butcher; the creator of "Precious Moments" figurines, was asked by a child once if puppies and kittys went to Heaven, being wise and sage, Mr. Sam replied He believed so, that God wants us to have the things we love around us and if we loved our pet, he would be there. A short time later a small Puppy and a kitten appeared in the Mural inside the Chapel.
  Many times I have seen an animal display the traits we are called to show when we have chose to follow Jesus, and they displayed them better than many Christians do. I had a wondeful Collie for awhile that would share his lunch with neighboring dogs; we brought home a small Orange kitten and this dog adopted it, it slept on him, he allowed it to eat from his food, it ate first and when it was done he would finish it, after the kitten came, he the dogs who he'd been sharing with weren't allowed to enter the property, this huge male Collie was so motherly and gentle towards this tiny kitten it was touching. Recently we had a female Daushund that after her pups were weaned away, she adpoted some kittens I was fostering before finding them new homes. Such actions fron dogs toward cats and reverse, can be used as examples to show compassion and love is not solely a human trait.
