The Parchment

Copyright 2003 by:Mark V Sheldon

Old parchment folds the message
inscribed by sharpened quill
red wax preserves its vestige
beneath a ribbon’s frill

Its corners tell a tale
and stains contain the proof
that words of love shan’t fail
when written with the truth

Through forests dark and dreary
and sun-kissed golden dale
into the fog and eerie
he galloped without fail

Across the rushing rivers
which kept all foe at bay
and nay without a quiver
he rode into the day

She stood by open curtain
with sunlight in her hair
and looked to see for certain
a figure riding there

Through running breath she pleaded
the guard to open gate
and as the guard conceded
the rider brought her fate

This parchment turned a maiden
into a sire’s queen
its history is laden
with all that it has seen

Now I bestow, with honor
this parcel of the heart
made by my great-grandfather
that we may never part

I love the feeling of the Knight on a course to find his love. One that will never be broken. So wonderful to read...all the way through!!! Like a ride of old. Beautiful!

Thank you, Craig, and no -- the only boundaries on Love are those which are self imposed...

timothysangel1973

Bill, I am always happy to offer you my readings.

Crystal -- that's a neat way of putting it.  I have many more "miles to go before I sleep" and always welcome a friend on the journey...

SharaRose:  A knight, eh?  Thank you for your kind words and for sharing in the adventure.

Sunshine:  Then the quest was well worth it, and thank YOU for sharing...

Sy:  Always an honor coming from you -- thank you.

Raph:  I wanted to write something different...  Thank you for the accolade.
