CAUGHT

I sat down next to him,
feeling his unease,
surprised that I had the courage to do so,
caught in another lie.

I waited,  eyes staring at the ladies room door,
waiting for it to open, wondering
how she would look.

Keys were on the counter,
a glass half empty
marked by her lips.

I blinked several times,
knowing I hadn't sipped a thing...yet!
But caught by the reflection
of part of my past.

Ten years younger,
it would have been me,
he was excited to see.

Hair was shoulder length, light brown,
softened around her face.
She was dressed in a skort and
shoestring shouldered top, very tanned
and fit.

I was watching a younger me,
winning over my husband,
reaching behind his back
to shake my hand as she began
to introduce herself.

"Roxanne", she said with a beautiful smile...
"Pete's wife", I said, enunciating each syllable.

thank you ea...I am just content in  venting my feelings...

Ed, I watched for 6 months...until she no longer could take it... nor take what was mine. (Oh I don't mean my husband, she could have him..it was what we had worked hard for, for 30 years that was not going to be hers so easily...)She walked...eventually...
smart "girl".
I sort of had the last laugh, although it wasn't very funny.

Thanks for reading,
M

Ah hell...I think I would have punched her in the face just to watch the shock...

Anyway, you handled it very well...you are some kind of lady and should never doubt that...

Punched her Susan? I got barred from the bar and still am today, just because it upset her to see me walk in, whenever I needed to ask my husband a question while she was working there and he was being entertained by her.

A hurt long gone..besides I am really not that tough...I was just never in a position like that before and didn't know if there was a "proper" way to respond...
but thinking  back on it...I know I shocked her among others there...haaa

I guess it's one I should have taken a picture of for "my scrap of a book" of post memories.

Crystal, try not to read me too deep..everything on the surface is plenty enough.

Karen, I don't know about lessons..I surprised myself through that whole six months..nothing to be too proud of either, physical abuse...police, torn out phone lines...busted back door and barn windows.

Love makes one act irrationally at times..but never as poorly as lusting does. I did leave them to one another for 6 months..she gave up when I didn't let go of my home and possessions.

Thank you lw...I am sorry if you have or had to go through anything like this. It changes one's perpective on  everything in life...and not necessarily for the better.
