No Longer

It gets to me sometimes,
more often than not,
this summer heat and you.

I no longer worry about the sweat
as I make my body useful,
creating my own destiny,
different from my wants,
now only tending a need,
that to survive.

I see you as always,
cutting through the words,
mine silenced by feelings of forgotten,
loneliness your baggage
always wearing your burden of black
covering my mirrors in mourning.

What was there ever,
what was there never,
what was there always
that blocked your view of me,
read me wrong, assuring both of us
of another failure?

Today I will be among the raindrops,
soaking in their cool touch,
my eyes allowing the moisture to combine
with theirs, and I will know
that words cannot make you whole,
that possibilities are like promises,
"made to be broken"
that words like "love" and "caring"
can never be forced.

I will tend my garden, in the rain,
weed out that which never belonged,
paint my thoughts in song
and will no longer blame myself
for the feelings I have.

I once was innocent, until you.

M

So sad, yet wonderfully forthcoming.
It's true, love cannot be forced,
but that doesn't mean it has to hurt so bad.

You're such a wonderful Poetess!
Love and hugs to you Maureen~

I'm thinking that "wholeness" is only a possiblity, but perhaps the possibility that keeps one foot moving ahead of the other.

"Love" and "caring" freefall in a quiet rain.
