In the quiet darkness of being alone,
No burning candlelight or hearth fire,
Just the cold smoothness from the floor of stone,
That chills my feet and darkens the desire.

The night mostly has passed taking it’s dreams
And the bright orb stays below the mountains
Yet the moonlight highlights the fine dew sheen
Waits to glisten at the sun’s rising curtain

A bit of wine remains from last night’s drink,
I take the near empty bottle outside,
The twilight shows the day is on the brink
Then the sunshine to the night sky does ride.

Straight from the bottle I toast the new day,
With none to talk to and nothing to say.

Gloom

:'( So sad. Lot's of images come to mind, but lonely seems to jump from the page.

Gloomy~

You know why I like your poetry so much?  Because it always makes me want to hold you and comfort you...this one in particular made me want to toast the new day with you...

You are good...

Thank you, SharaRose,
Pleased you liked it,
Seems lonely is one of my better things I do,
Perhaps it’s my own fault or it just is my destiny.

Thank you, Susan,
Your enjoyment gives me pleasure,
If I even travel your way,
I might take you up on that hold and comfort,
and shared toast,
But till then I remain

Gloom

Loved this melancholy write Gloom...
Be nice for you to share that final sip of port with me
as we toasted the sunrise.
