Inanimate You

There you are on a shelf, by my bed,
for only my eyes to be seen.
Not really a smile on a face so dark
but a memory still, pristine.

Taken by me, in the car before going,
wishing to keep you always in thought.
Then there's the crystal resting against it,
a present once touched by you, that I bought.

I keep thinking, of what else... do I hold,
but there's only a cloth, white with your scent.
That's all there is, nothing more, nothing less
but of value, the same, "till next time" of intent.

I don't cling to the pain Susan,
it was just left there
to hang in my closet
unexplained.

Glenn, Meg, Crystal, loner, BC and Bernie, vandana,
thank you for your responses.

I thought this a nice challenge to take part in.
Thank you Meg.

well I haven't packed or unpacked in over 24 years...except for suitcases if  visiting.

No, these aren't boxed, misplaced or hidden...just pieces placed in view of a fond memory.

thank you *s
