Hand In Hand, Alone

Words fail me
as I kiss the world this morning
knowing that I am passing through
another phase and the depth of my heart
will be seeking solace.

She will greet me with a smile,
a jaundiced look,
an aged face, giving her ten years or more.
The hug will be hard, no softness
left to her body, only that in spirit.

My eyes wish to see her
in another framework, my fingers
wish to walk hand, in hand of strength...
remembering.

Brown eyes, she has,
the only in our family,
now sunken as we will see in each other
the only thing we share on this day...
fear.

We will lunch together, then she going back
to her list of to do's, all having
to do with appointments,
while I travel on, hiding
behind those curtains
as I struggle alone, in thought,
to raise them high,
to camouflage what is.
