stave tonight
the whittling
curling curlicues
ignore the patterns
gathering
the lathering upon the feet

fire flickers ambercast
tin-type of a photograph
sepia and smoke-stain eyes--
the rocking chair chords creak the board.

"I smell snow," the woman said.
The old man carved, but nodded head.

"I'll fetch some wood in from the pile,"
their eyes met, and then, they smiled.

smile.

I was just trying to write something with a softer quill this time. I was hoping to achieve that cozy comfortable silence that two people share--this one was inspired by my mom and dad of course....

I've been going through that emotional scrapbook again.

Smile.

Thanks for reading.

Karen...this is lovely...

You definitely succeeded in portraying that
'cozy comfortable silence', and I can see
your mom and dad in this portrait of words.

Love and hugs, lady...

Karen- You are an amazing artist. This one is absolutely gorgeous...

Very lovely feel to this...almost a still-life photograph in black and white. Excellent writing and craftsmanship though.
