my own state

Weekends away from ethereal tasks at hand
into guarded chambers where cups all stand
light glints from a polished surface
would theft of one be my purpose?
how foolish to think
one would be so easily within my reach
yet as the eye blinks
what an ordinary chalice would then teach.

will it be a grail studded with precious jewels
that I may drink of it eternal liquor
and find eternal salvation
or will I be a king's court fool
that I may fill its guilded hollow
and damnation will quickly follow?
When will the journey end
upon grasp's reach
with energy spent?

Days pour into weeks
yet the pleasure of the chase
has not yet been hunted
I am awkward with my weapons still
a chalice from on high waits to be filled.

For the weekend and week are one indeed
do not grasp for the chalice in fits of greed
to go through the seal of protective glances
and certian demise to affect your chances

It is the ordinary cup, simple in its basic shape
drink it as you sup, hair will rise from your nape
and eternal life you will then be given
rather than by greed should you be driven...

And promises for man's salvation lies not in golden charms
the accumulation of worldly trifles does worse than harm.
drink from the ordinary cup is what to choose
and grasps of the golden one will have you lose.

Wise words! Well written! The ordinary cup holds life as it is, some sweetness and some bitterness, all authentic ...

It's a continual mystery to me, that some of the very best poetry which is posted to these forums falls through them like gold through water. I'm panning today, and glad of it!

Ecrivan, excellent writing as always.
I really enjoy your poetry.

By the way, I do read your poetry sometimes
when I don't leave a reply. The reason being that
I just don't know what to say. Do know that I read, though.
Hugs to you, Martin

Ecrivan, this is a most stunning write.  I have read it over and over and keep seeing more. Don't know how I missed it last month. It's going into my library, for certain.  ~K~
