Through the glens in the night,
blades blackened or hidden from sight,
nettle flogged legs to give some heat,
still the damned hoarfrost nipped at my seat,
crossing the water and mounting the dale
by morning ready to strike.

O'er the crest we came with the dawn,
war pipes awailing like the Ban'Sidhe,
the dogs were loosed the blades were drawn;
we came to die or live to be free
and fell on them at Ballantrae;
the cry was havoc, the shout was heard
last remnant of the spoken word.

Morrighu! Morrighu! Morrighu!

I read this in your reply to Aenimal poem.   The drama of the poem left me looking for more information. Thank you both for that.
