From the pits of a valley, from voices there trapped
By banks of a river, where water once lapped
I feel and I hear from a past that has been
When gold in the eyes, was the only thing seen

The echoes of digging with pick and by pan
The flirting of women, the sweat made of man
The screams that were hidden from those all around
The fever created by gold in the ground

There was hope in the treasure that promised a life
There was death in the struggles and petty mans strife
There was lie and deceit, no friend to believe
The promise of riches of life to receive

The rush, it had started and fevered a land
By races of people, of struggle and stand
But all with the passion to search and to seek
For gold that was calling and riches that speak

A gold rush that stopped all a nation to find
The promise of future and dreams of the mind
From where Mother nature its treasure did hide
Where only just few would have luck by their side

The natures of man they all came out to show
The anger the rage and the bad that we know
There were killings and thieving, a time of ill will
Where eyes and the pockets all searched for their fill

Some they found treasures, while others despair
Some they grew weary, while some didn’t care
A time filled with by people with nothing to lose
A time filled with hardship that greed would abuse

But that was the past, and they were the days
When people they struggled in so many ways
Their hope set on future, a time that’s now passed
Of Goldrush and fever that calls from the past

Very powerful write that holds a very lively picture of the past.

Could find a place in a history book surely!

Dear Margherita, thank you for your reply, lovely you could visit, it was very much appreciated.

Nakdthoughts, I have never mined for gold, but would love to, there is something about finding treasures of the earth I think. I have been to tourist attractions where I have tried some panning, it was fun but very little luck. Thanks for your reply, great to see you here.

Dear Ethel, how are you my friend? great to see you here, your comments are so much appreciated and heart felt, could you please send me the the Web pages address, my hard drive had crashed and I lost all my addresses, that would be great.

Dear Dixie, nice to see you here my friend, thanks for the reply, as always appreciated.

To you all my friends, again thank you for your replies, they are always appreciated and heart felt.

Sincerely
Rick
